During my clinical rotations, I noted there is little focus on addressing patient’s psychosocial care. This is what informed my career goal which is to care for patients in rural setup, prison, or mental hospital. Currently, I work as a Registered Nurse at Chuckawalla Valley State Prison. As a Registered Nurse working with inmates, I my goal is to integrate cognitive and behavioral modification with nursing care. I devote time to understand how each of my clients can successfully reintegrate himself as a beneficial member of the community where he came from to an extent that he will be regarded as a resourceful member of such a community. I always discuss with them about building their capacity in academics, vocational training, and work ethics. Therefore, my short-term career goal is to enhance my nursing skills in psychosocial assessment, patient education, interpersonal communication, therapeutic communication, cultural awareness, patient advocacy, and mentoring.
5. My long-term professional goal is to become a Correctional Mental Health Nursing Practitioner. In this capacity, I will be able to become an advocate of holistic nursing that incorporates patients’ psychosocial wellbeing in nursing care.
