Hello Lupe,

I agree with you professionalism is key when dealing with sensitive subjects such as the reproductive health history. Gaining the patients trust is very important too because that will make it a lot easier for the patient to disclose their past history. Also making the patient feel comfortable can help too. As women we already have an advantage because we can understand some of their issues and put our self in their shoes.

Have a good weekend.

To say that I am a reader would be a stretch. I can not remember the last time I picked up a book for my own personal pleasure. Some would say that should bother me, but I can’t agree with the reasoning behind it. Mostly people bring up how books have broadened their horizons and changed their way of thinking, which is something I can’t relate to. Instead, I would say that I agree with what a good book should do, but I can‘t say I have found a good book, or a page turner if you will.…

I like that your hospital has the list of credentials each doctor is able to perform. I feel that would be very helpful in certain situations, not only for the patients, but the nurses. I have been at my current job, on a Labor and Delivery unit, for 7 years, and just found out an obstetrician doesn't perform hysterectomies. I feel that is extremely dangerous, because every woman is at risk of bleeding, when giving birth. I would not want to be the patient that is bleeding, and needing a hysterectomy, that has to wait for another surgeon to arrive to perform the surgery.…

Hi, Edward. I also believe that providing past medical history to your primary doctor is not only important to him/her, but also to yourself. This way, you and your doctor can both work together exchanging information in order to reach an accurate diagnosis. Your doctor needs to have some background information in order to properly diagnosis and prescribe treatment. I also found it interesting that you pointed out that people should stand up for themselves when it came to choosing the suitable health provider.…

Professional honesty is about the physician knowing the limits of his or her own competence and when to refer to someone else for help. There is nothing shameful about not knowing the solution to a medical problem. It is dangerous to fake competence or pretend to know things. The Council quotes research that indicates a patient is more likely to complain if a physician fails to disclose harm to the patient, or if the disclosure is not done in an open and honest manner…
