Brainwashed, that’s what she was, a women deprived of her freedom, a woman who loved helping others, given no opportunity to do what she treasured. She knew nothing of what was to come, will she endure? Or will she see the end? Losing her job, she was strongminded not to lose her family. Hiding behind cars, listening to gunfire, to the cries of people in agony, bullets soaring past, this was a women of great strength and was not ready to give up, even if this meant leaving behind her well earnt possession and fleeing with only one bag in each hand, she fled her home country, over plains and plains she walked, hand in hand with her husband to reach a place where she felt safe, a place of freedom she could call home. She was raised up by her mother and father, with her 2 younger sisters. Going through primary school her parents provided her with the provision she needed both emotionally and financially. Although finance wasn’t an issue, Esma’s parents knew the length they had to go to earn the money they required to support the family, which meant working extended shifts and only coming home for dinner. As for education Esma was an outstanding student who persevered in her learning experience. As a young child Esma visualized herself as a nurse, and strived to accomplish this, by giving her all to her education. In 1980 Esma obtained her certificate for graduating high school with notable results, unfortunately after graduating high school, she faced the financial problem of paying for her university tuition. Esma was left with no choice but to find a job, a job through which she obtained the money to pay her university tuition and allow her to pursue her studies as a nurse. While studying Esma got married and graduated as a nurse a couple years later, she was ready to pursue her passion, even though she had to move away from her parents, they continued to support her through her
