For my activity outside of class, I went out to eat with my ESL partner, went to the casino and ended the night playing pool. I had two ESL partners, but unfortunately only one was able to accompany me. At first we had planned to go to Caesars and it was supposed to be with my two ESL partners. Ariadna was not able to make it because the ESL program had a last minute activity, which was to go bowling. Olmedo told me he was still up for the casino because he did not want to go bowling. I drove and picked Olmedo up with my cousin at the Seaview hotel. The day of the interview, Olmedo had mentioned that he missed his food back home. He was not a big fan of American food. Sadly, I did not know of a Panaminian restaurant near this area. Personally,

The Grade I Should Get in ESL 203 In ESL 203 I should get a grade A, which is the highest grade of the course. Wilmington University offers the course “English as a Second Language: Advanced Grammar and Writing” (ESL 203), which is designed for international students to “learn about the writing process, features of specific essay types, developing content, and expressing themselves in comprehensible and grammatical language” (Wilmington University, 2016a). Even though I still make mistakes, but I can do the self-check to correct common grammatical errors and successfully completed all the course requirements. The first reason to get the highest grade is that I can review the first draft my own and prepare a better version by minimizing the…

Along with these elementary operants, there are also more complex verbal behaviors. These complex behaviors include tact extensions and generalization, automatic reinforcement and private events. Within the city of Corpus Christi, there is evidence of economic disparity. I discovered this through my experience with the Junior Achievement (JA) program, and through data collected and observations made on my assigned school and its neighborhood, and of other JA schools in the city of Corpus Christi. All data and observations were collected to show comparisons between each JA school. The information found is valuable because it is important to know about both the physical side of a community and the economic side of a community, and how they compare to each other, as well as how they compare to other communities within a city. Junior Achievement is an organization dedicated to educating young children about branches that deal with economics,…

On Monday, during the third period, I observed a read-aloud lesson. After the teacher wrote the title of the book, she called the students over to the meeting area. Prior to the read aloud, the teacher set strict expectations for the students. For instance, the teacher advised the students that they had to remain seated “Criss-Crossed Applesauce” and raised their hands if they had a question or a comment about the reading. Otherwise, they had to sit calm and quiet.…

Overall, the most important thing about this chapter is to know how to use language accurately, clearly, vividly, and appropriately. Words have two meanings, denotative and connotative. An ELL student is described as a linguistically and culturally diverse student who is learning the English language in addition to his or her native language. In my current fieldwork experience and to the best of my knowledge, there are no ELLs students attending any of the classes that I currently observe. From what I’ve observed, the classes I attend are not highly diversified by ELL’s, those students who are, seem to speak English fluently with no noticeable difficulty. Therefore, I am unable to give any descriptions on learning accommodations as of now on ELL’s. However, there were many lessons that did observe that accommodated different learning styles, that would also help ELL students if they were present in the classroom, such as, visual, auditory and tactile learning accommodations.…

The sun was hot, it must have been almost 100 degrees, which isn’t out of the ordinary for Brasil, but on this particular day the heat seemed as though if you threw an egg on the street it would fry right on the pavement. I took my usual route through Bento Rodrigues to get to work. Stopping at the corner store by the farm to get my favorite candy before going to work on the docks. I had stopped there every day for the past seven years before work, it was my routine.…

Prior to taking ENL 110, I was concerned if I would be able to handle a college writing course. Growing up in the inner-city it was difficult to learn the basic foundations of writing such as grammar and punctuation. As an avid reader, I have had only my ears to rely on to make the appropriate corrections and build sentences. I stepped into the course afraid to write papers, but I was hungry to learn my weaknesses and strengths. This portfolio is a reflection of the progress I have made since I started this course to the brutal end.…

Observational method is as clear as it sounds. Children learn from what they observe. Since adults are the “role models” in a child’s eyes, they normally presume that every single act from an adult is correct or normal. When I was a kid, I was very curious like all the other kids. Whenever I go with my mother inside the ladies’ room, I would see pretty young professionals putting on some make-up, lipstick and other beauty products.…
