Escherichia coli and Me
The disease/infection that I have chosen is the urinary tract infection, commonly known as the UTI. Depending on where the infection occurs, there are two specific names. If the infection occurs in the lower part, like in your bladder, it is called Cystitis. If the infection travels up towards your kidneys, it is called Pyelonephritis (Umm/Health). The microbe that causes this infection is Escherichia coli, more commonly known as E. coli. It is found commonly in healthy people and normally not harmful (Mayo Clinic E. coli).

Last summer I went to pick up my daughter, her grandmother looked at me and said that I didn’t’ look good. I told her that I hadn’t been feeling good that day and that I had developed a severe pain in right mid back. She said that she would keep Bella for the night and allow me to relax. Here I had just moved into my apartment and thought that maybe I had pulled a muscle and that’s why I was in pain. When my boyfriend came home, I asked him if he could go buy a thermometer because I thought I was feeling a little warm, although my body had the chills and I was under three blankets. He came back with the thermometer took my temperature and sure enough, I was running at 104.1. To the E.R. we went and that is when I found out that my UTI had then reached my kidneys. I was in the Pyelonephritis stage. I had a fever, the shakes, lightheadedness and a sever amount of pain. They gave me some antibiotics, gave me my discharge instructions and was told to return if the symptoms did not improve. I waited two days, and I still had a fever over 103 degrees. Back to the E.R. I went. Although they never admitted me, I was there for nearly 24 hours the second time. They would not let me leave until the fever had broke.
My experiences with this infection, has affected me in so many ways. It has finally led me to the path of having to see an Urologist. The problem
