I live in Tennessee, United States. I am a slave that has been transported plantation to plantation. I decided to escape to the North because the plantation owners treated me like I was nothing to them. The slaveowners beat me and forced me to do their work on their farms. They made me pick cotton, tobacco, rice, and sugar canes. I also decided to escape because they didn’t give us anything to eat, drink, or wear. They tortured us. I got seperated from my brother when the owners auctioned us off one by one. We were dressed in our Sunday best. I was very nervous and scared because I thought the plantation owners will find me and kill me. I was determined because I wanted to get out of the South and be free like everyone else. I want to be treated
