Have you ever been on an escalator? I have many times and one time it was crazy and let me tell you why.

It was the fall of 2011 and I was 5 years old. I was in kindergarten around the time and it was a saturday. My mom, my 2 sister and I went to the Roosevelt Field Mall and we were enjoying ourselves. My family and I were walking around and my sister and mom got into an argument like usual. My mom was tired because she was working all day and she didn’t want to hear it from my sister so my mom decided to take us home. We were going down an escalator in macy's and I was behind my sisters and mom. I was just standing there and then something really strange happened.

The escalator stopped working and everybody was just looking at me and the escalator. The manager there at Macy’s said “Oh my. Your shoe and sock are ripped apart. Are you okay? Did you get hurt?”

I nodded my head and and said “I’m fine. I am not hurt only my shoes are gone and my socks too”.

My mom said “I’m sorry hijo this had to happen to

Everybody is a hero in their own story if you think about it.…

In a world where most of us are rushing, we need to slow down and have a bit more compassion for one another. We’ve probably all been that person hustling so quickly to get to class or work that we’re sweating under our jacket, letting the fury build up in our chest as the people in front of us move so slowly. So slowly. It’s especially infuriating when we get stuck behind human statues on an escalator. Why the heck aren’t people – at the very least – slowly walking on the moving stairs?…
