Esc 1102 Reflection

Improved Essays
With every paper I have written in this ENC 1102 class I have improved in some areas and still struggle with other aspects of writing. My writing has improved in aspects of my grammar and getting my ideas onto the page. At first, it was hard to take notes and make my ideas into an essay but now I do it with ease. It was also difficult to make things flow, I would have ideas all over the place but with better planning, my papers began to make more sense. There are things I still struggle with, not having enough evidence or not using enough quotes or using them incorrectly. I might not describe a quote enough or support my thesis enough in one paragraph. Sometimes I don't even us quotes from one of the essays in a paragraph and also

Over the semester, I found that the hardest part of all of the essays that I have written was using and finding evidence. The first paper that I wrote was extremely hard to write because I did not know how to find and use evidence. Now, I feel extremely confident in doing this. Another thing that I would like to point out is I am not as repetitive as I was before. Most of the papers that I have written before this year were very repetitious.…

Throughout the semester I struggled with clearly formatting my arguments to be understood by others. Writing has always been one of my weakest skills. I never understood the basics of grammar, such as punctuation, verbs, or compound sentences. However, I learned to improve by challenging myself with the essays I am including in my writing portfolio. They have taught me to use my time more wisely in order to develop effective papers. Furthermore, they helped me better myself every day by working hard and seeing a different side of writing papers.…

Writing has not been my favorite thing because it takes me ages to complete a single page paper. But for the second assignment, I started to write everything out without giving too much attention for small errors, and I am able to write a lot faster. Of course, my first draft is not as it used to be, but I can go back correct my errors at any time. In addition, my big problem was that I would always start from the beginning and work my way down. However, if I stalled on the introduction which I always tried to make it attractive, I would stop the whole and leave the work for later.…

Adequate writing was always a struggle for me because I struggled with coming up with topics to write about. Even when teachers gave us prompts to write about I struggled writing about them mostly because I thought writing was boring. Another reason I was discouraged by writing was I would spend hours at a time trying to come up with ideas for a prompt and would barely come up with any ideas to write about. Being a civil engineering major I see why writing is so important in my career field. My experience with writing has had its good moments and its bad moments.…

Over the last four essays, my ability to write has improved exponentially from the beginning of the year. Through the four essays I have learned valuable skills that will be the support for future essays. On the two beginning essays my ability to use vocabulary and other valuable skills was improving. Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

I have noticed in my different essays while examining them that I would often excel in one part of the essay, while still failing to repair other flaws. In my Modernism essay, I incorporated evidence well, but I did not add smooth transitions, making the writing seem choppy. In my synthesis essay, I made sure to polish my transitions and include plenty of evidence to support my claims, yet the essay was focused too much on the evidence and not enough on the arguments themselves and the meaning of the evidence. Nevertheless, I fixed nearly every mistake there was in my last essay, an analysis of The Visit. I used strong diction that contributed to both imagery and my defeated tone.…

I am still not that good at it, but I noticed that I started thinking more about the choices I make when I write. For example, I began my summary of Thonney’s “Teaching the Conventions of Academic Discourse” with a point of view she disagrees: “Thonney points out that some scholars deny the idea that there are set rules to academic writing.” I thought this would be more effective than talking about her ideas, then bringing up the opposing opinion, and then coming back to Thonney’s thoughts again. I wanted the paragraph to have a strong structure because that way it is more effective and easier to understand. This is definitely an improvement.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…

Writing has always been a struggle for me for as long as I can remember. I find it difficult to put my thoughts on a paper, especially if I have to do it in another language. Some people think that as long as they can speak a language or communicate with other people, it is enough. However, these people are totally wrong. People do not only need to speak a language fluently, but they also have to be able to write it.…
