The idea came from my interest in the outdoors. This story of survival caught my attention. I had to do a lot of sifting to find good sources to use. One may search “events that happened in 1914” and not see a thing about Shackleton and the Endurance expedition but, one reason I think it is important to study this topic is because not many people seem to know about it. I think it is valuable to learn about the different struggles that people have faced. I also think it is important because there are plenty of sad stories of survival but here is a story that brings a ray of hope to people everywhere and that’s important. There are many stories of struggle, survival and heroism throughout time but to me this story really stands out among them.
This topic relates to change because although we won’t ever know what would have happened had Shackleton completed his expedition to the Ross Sea, his story inspires generations because despite catastrophe and misfortune, he showed us that there is always a way to keep going and to keep pushing towards success. This project has been a beneficial learning experience for me because I learned that there are struggles much bigger than our own. I also learned that when people work together, they can do almost anything they put their minds
