The Bullfighters that Ernest Hemingway describes in the excerpt from Death in the Afternoon are brave however they are not courageous. It takes a brave person to be able to face a bull head on in order to defeat it, because the bull fighter understands that they are putting themselves in danger. Hemingway states, “It is a strange feeling to have an animal come toward you consciously seeking to kill you, his eyes open looking at you, and see the oncoming of the lowered horn that he intends to kill you with.” Which does give a since of bravery from the eyes of a bullfighter, much like a firefighter, it takes a certain type of person to stare at a burning building and go in. Some choose to run away from harm while others choose to go in. the difference
