Erin Gruwell, a twenty-three year old, stepped into room 203 with wide eyes and wishful thinking for her first year ever as a teacher. She was passionate about helping children in the classroom to hopefully prevent their involvement in crime later in life. She despirately wanted her new class to learn and lead effective lives. In her classroom at Wilson High School, she found that the 150 freshmen had records as taggers and gang-bangers, called as “rejects.” Racial conflict was prudent in the classroom on a daily basis. Not one student had the desire to learn because each was distracted by the hate of the world around them. But Erin Gruwell never gave up on them; instead, she fought for her students.
