A. Erik Erikson was a developmental psychologist and theorist best known for his detailed theory on the psychosocial development of human beings. Erikson believed that culture and society plays a pivotal role in the conflicts that can take place within the ego itself. His theory of psychosocial development has eight distinct stages, each with two possible outcomes. (McLeod, 2008) The stages are: Trust vs. Mistrust, Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt, Initiative vs. Guilt, Industry vs. Inferiority, Ego Identity vs. Role Confusion, Intimacy vs. Isolation, Generativity vs. Stagnation and Integrity vs. Despair. However there are numerous times I have doubts that I may be studying the wrong course and maybe I should do a re-sit of a few of my subjects or even do nursing as that is closer to my first love of becoming a medical doctor. (McLeod,2008) From my experience shared above seen, I am struggling with the decision of whether or not I’m pursuing the right course of study. I began to explore varying possibilities which enabled me to develop my own identity based on specific outcomes. When I received my Unit 1 and Unit 2 Cape results and they were not as good as I expected this outcome factored into me not being able to get accepted in to Medical school or to study Pharmacy. The theory did suggest grasping a sense of who we are can be hindered, resulting in confusion. Two issues that may arise within my chosen profession are; poor scientific productivity and negligence of drugs. C. Pharmaceutical Technology is a profession that requires new ideas and creativity that will improve the pharmaceutical industry. The concept of group think can be easily demonstrated within the pharmaceutical industry. Group think maybe a contributing factor to one of the issues faced within my profession, which is poor development of scientific productivity. Pharmaceutical Technologists employed to a specific company may have new idea of ways to improve the scientific productivity of the products being made. Whether it may be introducing other compounds or new machinery that will be able to produce a similar drug or nutraceutical or cosmetic products of a better quality and at a faster rate.
