People in the stage of Generativity vs. Stagnation have come to develop ways of dealing with problems that occur. The person will volunteer for different programs to feel useful and needed (Huitt, 2008). This in turn will help them feel that they are being of use. In total unhappiness with what they have done and thinking that there is not much left in life, they might end up with depression and melancholy for which will stymie they from successfully completing this stage(McLeod, 2013). A person that can look back on their life with review and objectivity and say this is what I did and not worry that things did not always work out will succeed in this stage (McLeod, 2013) If a person can feel closure in what they did in their lifetime then this stage will be easy to master(McLeod, 2013), In this stage there might be problems that develop as far as health and other psychological problems which can deter us from even completing this stage (McKee, 2012). In this stage, which is the last stage of life, the need to be righteous becomes more advanced. Friends and family members might move on and roles of being a parent leaves them behind and some individuals at this stage might think back on their days as parents or workers or significant others and reflect what life has held or will hold for them(McKee, 2012). The individual might think that the decisions they made prior might not be of good merit and question some of them (McKee, 2012). On the other side of despair is integrity, which is when the individual is very agreeable in what their lives have become and move out of the fact of despair (McKee, 2012).
