Erika. Erika with the dark raven hair and the shy smile that first appears on the corner of her eyes then spreads to her mouth, who would have known she hosts’ a midnight show? Her dreams, memories, hopes, and ideas projected every night from 2am- 4am. If you follow the termites they might show you the way.
The termites go to her at night after the yawning but before the song of the rooster. They always take the same path, little tiny crawls that sound like the scratching of skin. Porcelain white termites crawl from the minuscule hole in her wooded floors, march from under her bed up the bed frame, from the length of her loose hair to the inside of her head. They once tried crawling through her mouth but they vowed never to make that mistake again.

They noticed the lights coming from the orifices in her head since Erika’s youth but fear had kept them away. An expedition was planned to save the reckless larvae, but when they finally reached Erika’s chest the young larvae persuaded them to enter Erika’s ear to see her magnificent show. During the day, Erika’s eyes are framed by ebony eyeliner but at night they roll back to stare directly at her brain. They stay motionless until R.E.M, when the shuffling and changing of images projected on her brain mark the beginning of the featured presentation. By then, the termites rest in the wrinkles of Erika’s brain.
They know her better than any anybody will ever know somebody without speaking, without understanding. “Erika, the legend, the greatest movie star”, they would say if their anatomy allowed. Then at exactly 4am they leave without a word, one by one crawling out, Termites like pearls rolling uniformly back to their home until the next
