The implementation of the Berlin Wall brought on many divisions in Berlin. Not only were East and West Berlin geographically separated, they were divided politically, economically and culturally. Erich Honecker, leader of East Berlin in 1971 through 1989, and the German Democratic Republic Party played a humungous role in the separation of this city. Erich Honecker’s working hours economic policy and the German Democratic Republic’s socialist foundations acted as a political wall in the cultural development of East Berlin. The German Democratic’s ultimate goal was to bring together both social and economic policy.
