Mahler’s 4th Symphony, Berg’s Wozzeck, Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, and the works by Boulez and Webern were all major vocal works. Mahler’s scherzo which is the foundation for the third movement is not properly a vocal piece, but has close connections with vocal music that go beyond the Antonius von Padua song. On the movements that follow the scherzo on the Symphony, Mahler introduces soloists and choir singing poems about death and resurrection. Berio’s choice of these quotations not only acknowledges the importance of the voice in music history but also carry semantics that point towards life, death and irony in between. Berio’s use of the voice, has never been conventional, since pieces like “Circles” and Sequenza III, the composer demonstrated to be more interested on the deconstruction of the musical material and of the “voice” itself.…

Emergent tenor saxophonist based in New York, Paul Jones, exhibits higher levels of matureness and a willingness for originality in his incredible new album, Clean, a considerable step ahead since the release of his full-length debut album, Short Stories, recorded in 2014 with his reliable sextet. The band members are maintained here with the exception of pianist Sullivan Fortner, who gave its place to Glenn Zaleski. The remaining artists, all young and powerfully talented, are Alex LoRe on alto saxophone, Matt Davis on guitar, Johannes Felscher on bass, and Jimmy Macbride on drums. Some tunes feature a group of woodwind players that plump for a classical chamber tone rather than a jazz-oriented drive.…
In Unit One of Kristine Forney, Andrew Dell’Antonio and Joseph Machlis’ book, The Enjoyment of Music, we discuss a ton of different things. In the beginning of unit one, the authors write about melody, rhythm and meter, harmony, and the organization of musical sounds. Near the end of the unit the authors begin to write about musical texture, music styles, and music functions. The last topic discussed in unit one is sacred music in the middle ages. This unit provides us with insight on the basics of music and gives us a brief history on music during the middle ages.…
In the records of his death, the “laconic Cheque Book of the Chapel Royal described him as ‘a Father of Musick.’” (Grove 545) While Byrd’s inspired English music. OBSERVE MUSIC Concerto No. 21 in C major for Piano and Orchestra, K.467, second movement is also known as “Elvira Madigan“; named from a Swedish film and was used at length on that sound track. The graceful, slow movement would sooth any beast with its rhythmic resonance and graceful rhythm. This classical piece still entices a longing to close the eyes and listen to the swaying beats as the mind wonders through the ebb and tide of this musical dynamic. Movement no.2 starts with many instruments playing in unison as a background of cellos and bass drone a pattern.…
Rebel Music In Daniel Felsenfeld’s narrative, he describes himself as a rebel, when it comes to the taste of music during his time. He was getting tired of playing the same music and started drifting from his passion.…

After reading my analysis, you should trust that I understand the fundamentals of rhetorical appeals and you will know one of the discourses that I was a…
Standing on stage at The Kennedy Center singing to an audience of veterans, I realized my future accounting degree could combine my career with a valuable cause. After previously taking a high school finance course, I wanted to major in accounting. However, it was not until I participated in the 2015 National Memorial Day Choral Festival that I knew how to use it to serve those who have already served. When my choir director revealed the 2015 trip destination, I was overjoyed in anticipation of experiencing the nation’s capital for the first time in my life. As my choir started learning the festival music, I was awestruck by the dark lyrics of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ cantata “Dona Nobis Pacem” and inspired by others such as Mark Wilberg’s “Let Peace Then Still the Strife”.…
With my high school choir, I learned the work as a freshman, performed it that same year, and was later invited to sing with the St. Mark’s Episcopal Choir alongside choral and orchestral professionals. I have returned to St. Mark’s each December, earnestly awaiting to unleash the undulating melodies that lie in hibernation throughout the year. Not only is Handel’s music physically challenging, but also highly technical. The harmonic counterpoint, melismatic fugues, and other Baroque features of the oratorio all broadened my understanding of music theory, and how music can convey deep…
Each artist had his own individual and distinct musical flavor. The music’s purpose was to speak for the people with what words couldn’t say. This became more and more possible through the expansion of the orchestra, the implementation of more advanced musical forms, and the use of themes not yet explored such as nature, the supernatural, and…
