The Eric Marsh foundation was founded by his widowed wife, Amanda Marsh, to pay it forward. She lost her husband, Eric Marsh, in a wildland fire that killed 19 Wildland Fire Fighters in the line of duty. The fire was on June 30, 2013 in Yarnell, Arizona. Her program coordinator, Amy Armenta, salary is paid for by Ben Meadows. Ben Meadows is a Wildland fire gear company. Ben Meadows has been providing wildland firefighting gear for over 60 years. He started the company because Wildland firefighters defended the wooded area near his home town. His belief is offering the best tools and equipment and giving free, expert technical support. He stands behind The Eric Marsh Foundations philosophy. This allows the overhead to be very minimal. The Eric Marsh Foundation distributes 100% of monetary donations to the next of kin of a Wildland Firefighter killed in the line of duty (Armenta).
