Eric Patrick Clapton was born on March 30, 1945 in the home of his grand parents in Green Ripley, England. Clapton used music as an escape from reality and allowed it to be his refuge. Apart from the numerous amount of awards, Eric Clapton’s playing is proof enough that he is one of the greatest guitarists ever known, continuing to influence the music world with his playing, even today.
In his early life Clapton grew up in a household where music was always playing and always present starting a love for music for him at a very young age. Clapton's mother, Patricia Molly Clapton, was only 16 years old at the time of his birth; his father, Edward Walter Fryer, was a 24-year-old Canadian soldier stationed in the United Kingdom during World War II. Fryer returned to Canada, where he was already married to another woman, before Clapton's birth.( Biography.com Editors) Unable and unready to raise a child her parents raised him but never actually adopted him as their own, Clapton grew up under the impression that his grandparents Rose and Jack Clapp were his actual parents and it wasn’t up until he was about 8 years old that he found out that his “sister” Patricia Molly Clapton was his actual mother. Patricia met 25 year old soldier by the name of Edward Walter Fryer and we see how that turned out. Before Clapton was born his father left for and returned to Canada to never really be in Eric’s life. When Eric Clapton found out who his real parents were he reacted with a comedic slur saying “The truth dawned on me, that when Uncle Adrian jokingly called me a little bastard, he was telling the truth."
