Era Of Good Feelings DBQ

When you think about the time and what has happened the answer would be no the “Era of Good Feeling” doesnt deserve its name and for many reasons. This is mainly because throughout the years of 1812-1824 there have been many major mistakes that the government has made that caused them to go through problems. While some of these problems weren’t major, others were and have affected many people’s lives. Problems like infallation, civil wars, and not paying enough attention to who is running for office. Throughout these years of what is called the “Era of Good Feelings” we have read about the big mistakes that the government has made. We specifically see this in Document b-2 because of the way it explains how one decision affected so many people's lives from that year until the problem was fixed. We can especially see the problem when it states “The state banks then called in their loans- in order to obtain gold or banknotes of Second Bank- and the national economy collapsed. people lost their homes, farms, and fortunes overnight” (page 4 document D-2). We also see another major problem in document F because it shows us how divided the states of the US actually were. This was bad for the government because it made them unstable and caused them to disagree more than needed. We can clearly see this when it says “...the struggle for control between the commercial-industrial North and the plantation South increased” (page 7 Document F-2). In either words, because the government was split into two between Slave states and Free states, this rivalry could have caused a civil rights war which could have been very bad for the country.
