Equine-Assisted Therapy Personal Statement

His smile lit up the barn like nothing I had ever seen before. I felt my heart leap with joy seeing him so happy, so carefree, and so prideful. Equine-assisted therapy is a unique form of service, and it is one I have come to love. Volunteering at an equine-assisted therapy center has not only taught me a lot about therapy itself, but it has also shown me what true happiness looks like. On this specific day, I was helping a young boy with Down Syndrome. Marcus arrived at session every week with glimmering eyes, eagerly awaiting his turn to brush his horse, saddle up, and ride. As I watched him grab the reins and saw his cute smile stretch across his face, I knew in my heart this was the career field I wanted to be a part of. Growing up, I always had a passion for animals. Through working cattle on a friend’s family farm, riding and competing in horse competitions, and taking care of dogs and cats at our local vet clinic, that passion continued to grow. Because I knew I wanted to pursue this love even further by studying Animal Science, I invested my learning into mainly math, science, and ag-related courses. Horses can do unspeakably amazing things for children emotionally, mentally, and physically. By studying animal and equine science, I can become better prepared to deal with animals as a career. I aspire to make a difference in the lives of children who do not always receive the love and affection they deserve, and the best way to do that is to share my passion with them. I have learned by volunteering that not only do you make a difference in the lives of the kids, but they make an even bigger impact on your life as
