Financial aid is cutting the cost of tuition but not by a significant enough amount. As student enrollment goes up "the amount of financial aid that must be offered to enroll the class decreases"(Eruren). People are wanting to be rewarded for their hard work in getting good grades and trying their best in school yet these rewards are very little and not as accessible. For the students who are lucky enough to receive financial aid, studies have shown according to the Wall Street Journal that ninety percent of the colleges revenue comes from financial aid. Not all aid however is given in the form of financial aid “fifty-nine percent of aid in in the form of loans,”(Austin) while the rest is in the form of scholarships. “Scholarships are the best aid,”(Austin) due to the fact that the money does not have to be repaid. Students will henceforth pay more for better learning tools. There are many factors colleges look at to put money for better education. One factor is that there is a high cost for new development and research leading to better education. The government requires schools to have current research yet will not provide the funding for how much “the cost of doing research has skyrocketed in recent years” (Eruren).It is not only the research that cost but also the expanding and modernizing of buildings. School will have to pay for construction permits on any new expansions to the campus. Often times these expansions run into complication and this will draw out the process meaning more cost. (Eruren) Colleges are wanting to expand and build because they want to have the best rankings and the only way to have the best rankings is to have the newest technology and the prettiest campus. Colleges also need to pay for advertisement to make their college known. It is know that “the nation 's top schools have the best of everything:the best facilities, the best faculty and strong sports teams”(Weston).
