Though equality to both societies is crucially important, The Giver’s fashion of executing it differs from our modern day method. Sameness, or equality, in Jonas’s community is the effect of the government having complete control over everyone in the society. The Giver conveyed this message to Jonas, by how through Sameness, they,” gained control of many things...but [they] had to let go of others” (Lowry p.120). In Jonas’s community, the government plays a big role in keeping equality maintained, using methods like eliminating unique characteristics, and keeping the public’s lifestyle structured.
