Slowly learning the ways of the “unmentionable times” to unlock his individuality. Anthem is a book made to show in which ways current society is flawed. Equality is exactly like his brothers. He learns new feelings throughout the book and he becomes a new person. The house was made to model Equality’s change over society. This house represents Equality from the design of it, the candle at the heart of the house, and the color. The design of the house is the way Equality portrays himself over the book. Equality, at the beginning of the book, was the same as his brothers, yet different. The house is a plain and simple except for a hole in the middle of it. This hole can relate to Equality because, just like the house, one can see through the illusion and see the truth inside. Also there is no roof to the house. The inside makes the house unique and everybody can look inside as long as one looks past the exterior walls and looks into the house. The outside is all white which show the collective society that he has lived in all his life. White is made by all colors combining just like his society were everybody combines to make one uniform person. Despite this if one looks closely to the walls on the outside, there are dim colors that seem to pass through the walls. This is how everybody in Equality’s society knew he was different. Those little emotions that seem out of place in a black and white world. The colors on the inside are jumbled and mixed like Equality’s emotions. There is a circle of blue and pink around the light. These colors swirl around the light because the light has caused problems for him like getting kicked out of his society.” WE made it. We created it. We brought it forth from the night of the ages” (Rand 59). He loves his creation and is willing to go into exile for it. There is a lot a blue because Equality’s life has been filled with struggles and sadness. From being different to being lashed for his creation. There is still white present underneath all the color. Although Equality has changed drastically from the beginning of the book to the end, he still can’t shake off his all his old values that he has been taught since his childhood. There is pink on one wall which is his love for the Golden One and his friends that he has made in his
