Equality In Ayn Rand's Anthem

How would the world go if everyone were to listen to the rules and be exactly the same? Have no different thoughts and being involuntarily equal? Ayn Rand creates a world as if that was how we lived today in Anthem. Equality 7-2521 lives in a small city with rules undergoing almost everything. He has an insufficient job that the leaders expect him to learn nothing so he can not discover true reality and be individual from everyone else. Throughout the story he begins to disobey the rules and laws and become his own man and live in his own beliefs. Everyone was shocked that he rebelled against the rules and laws and became individual. Therefore, Equality was able to avoid the barriers and face the challenges. He gets accompanied with The Golden One and together they live their own lives without any Councils or leaders. Ayn puts in the story, “ Only wished to be away, away from the City and from the air that touches upon the air of the City.” (Rand 76) Ayn put that in the story because it shows that Equality 7-2521 has ran away from the governing home and wants nothing to do with the City. He even wants nothing to do with the air that touches his old home. Equality 7-2521 is so determined to no longer be controlled that he has started his new individual life with his own “invention” and created a new home.
