In the beginning of this novella, Equality expresses how he is different. “We are six feet tall, and this is a burden, for there are not many men who are six feet tall. “ (Rand 18) Every persons appearance is different, and everyone has different preferences to others appearances. Same height, same intelligence same everything. People are different from others, but they should never be punished for that. Being different is a gift Even now that Equality is a full grown man he still gets lashed for being different from everyone else. “Take our brother Equality 7-2521 to the Palace of Corrective Detention. He was lashed because he was being different from everyone else by being out later than his brothers. Altogether Equality is his own individual and as you can see as the book goes on he doesn't let the lashing and beating change who he is as a person. All these uses of repetition are very important because they either make the sentence have multiple meanings, or serve as a clue that this is important based on how many times it’s repeated and helps us understand his ideas. For example, the word “we” is constantly repeated until he discovers “I.” And to prove this, the whole book is wrapped around 2 ideas- individualism and egoism. Equality transformed from a confused kid into a man who has strong morals and ideas. While I may not agree with everything he has said and done, I do agree with most of what he’s done, especially because he is brave enough to withstand punishment and disobey the Council because he believed they were wrong. If I have strong opinions, I would do the same as Equality, which is to be respected.…
