Americans are dreamers since the beginning of this country, hundreds of years ago. One of these dreams is one of great strength and power: equality. It was the reason people came over from several different countries, and it was even one of the first things said in the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights…” Today, this line is questionable. Every day, some crowd in some city is holding up a sign and screaming at the top of their voices, and they all do it for the same reason. Equality has been at war before the idea was ever conceived. Each generation has and is still having issues with Equality. Right now, equality doesn’t exist in America. Too many groups that don’t have equal rights, such as the homosexual community, women, and African Americans; the same people that Americans have fought for/against in the past. Is Equality an idea that can be realistically obtained, or just a thing of myth? Since the beginning of civilization, there has been a sense of dominance among people. At the top, there were those that had money and power, then it slowly trickled down a pyramid to those who had to beg to even survive. …show more content…
It just doesn’t exist. Equality is just merely a dream that the founding fathers had during the making of this great nation. People have tried to achieve this dream, and numerous have failed due to the lack of perspicacity of the human race. John F. Kennedy, the one who passed the Civil Rights movement, agreed there is no solution that the law can give to give equality to people. "Law alone cannot make men see right," he said. "We are confronted primarily with a moral issue. (para. 12)” Men alone has to deal with this issue, so how can equality thrive when questioning morals is a hobby of everyday
