Race equality has been an issue for centuries. However, less than one in three black Americans and not even half of whites say the United States has made a large improvement in racial equality since Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. You hear a lot of things about how cops gear their focus towards harassing African-Americans. Well according to an article in the New York Times, about seven in ten black and more than one in four whites also concur that blacks are treated unequally by the criminal justice system. It also states that in 1960 black men were five times as likely as white men to be in local, state or federal prison and now about fifty years later, black males are six times and Hispanic males are three times as likely as white men to be incarcerated. Minorities also face inequality when it comes to income. “The average three-member black household makes about 59 percent of what a similar white household makes — up from 55 percent in 1967 — but the income gap in actual dollars widened to $27,000 from $19,000. (The gap has widened between whites and Hispanic people, too.) (Roberts).” Oddly enough while writing this paper, the lack of information for other minority groups outside of African-Americans was shocking to say the least. It is more on personal experience due to the lack of decent information. Religious equality does not seem like as big of an issue now days like it was back before America became a thought in some minds. Although I am sure that in small towns if you do not flow with the majority rule you do get shunned. The main religion I see get attacked is those that follow the religion of Islam. Those that follow this religion are discriminated against mostly due to what happened on September 11, 2001. No matter the race we are, we all have attacked them in some way shape or form. Now when it comes to equality of financial status and where you are from is most noticeable when you are growing up in school. Yes personal experience does have a role to play in this
