Her ideas in the talks lead to her saying how there is no equality for those people who are incarcerated. Her main idea is that “once you have been branded a felon, you lose all rights” She states this because she says African Americans who have been convicted of a crime struggle with getting a job for most players will not be open to hire criminals which leaves them with the inability to get a job and pay back anything they owe like housing, child support, or anything they own. Once you are branded a criminal you also lose public benefits like food stamps which does not help them one bit. They take into account an African American manager and how his job differs from a white man’s job as a manager. For example, at the start of the article his formal equality is violated because he feels like the only reason he was hired is to explain the “interpreter of minority concerns” (Caver 78) since the board did not seem to see him as equal since he had over 15 years of experience and all the questions were diverted towards diversity. Marie was a marketing director who had 15 years of experience and had won three national awards for her work. The merits are there she has the experience and the awards show that she is qualified to get the job, but one of the managers, colleagues had the audacity to go up to him and say “So White people aren’t good enough for you” (Caver 79) Even if it was a joke or not this display shows that the colleague would prefer a white male or female to have gotten the position.
