Equality 7-2521 Anthem

In the novella Anthem, written by Ayn Rand, the story’s protagonist is Equality 7-2521. Who lives in an era where technology and science have not been delved into due to a higher authority, where self-discovery and performing actions for and by oneself is discouraged. Essentially, Equality 7-2521 lives in a collective society. As one can imagine, where no person has performed experiments or tried to discover knowledge by oneself. Which was represented when Equality 7-2521 performed his experiments by mixing acid and even came far enough to build an oven. Which later on he had reflected about and knew it was against what his brothers stood for. Equality 7-2521 knew that because of what he is doing, he is defying everyone. This is also shown when he finishes creating and discovers the light bulb at night when the wires connect and a source of light appears. He desired and planned to bring it to the Council of Scholars to help all his brothers and to join the scholars, but being too optimistic Equality 7-2521 was shamed and his discovery discouraged because he had defied all of society as a whole. These events prove that the era in which Equality 7-2521 lives in proves that the technology and science in their era cannot be progressive by the brain of one man for all of society, but by one groups brain for all of
