Independent variables were analyzed in several sub-groups. The first group was divided based on the type of institution and what it offers. The second group was divided based on region, urban, historically black, or medical hospital. The third group was divided based on “mission related characteristics of an institution that change over time” (Rippner, 109) and include STEM, graduate, and business degrees. “The divergence in pay may ultimately affect the quality of research produced” (Rikkner, 121). When we look at North-Eastern Florida, we have several institutions that could attract our future college students. While students of all ability levels can go to public colleges, only the top get into the private institutions. If the top students are attracted to the public sector, it will be by the programs and their quality. Top students look for top programs. If a student is looking into research, they want a motivated staff that pushes for the best in their field. Faculty that are burnt out and in need of a pay increase will not inspire the best in their
