Though the reasons to support equal pay for equal work are endless, the amount of people with the ability to find a fault to support their sexist views are shocking. One reason that many of those individual believe that there should not be equal work for equal pay is that people who are not paid equally do not try hard enough to raise their pay. Not only do most people work in an environment that limits the discussion of pay, but many women get penalized when attempting to negotiate for higher pay. In fact, a bill that would have stopped employer retaliation against workers who discussed their wages failed to pass in the senate in 2014 (Alter). This brings about one major issue; it would be impossible for a woman to try and raise unequal pay
