Epstein–Barr virus is associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), Burkitt and Hodgkin lymphoma in immunocompetent and immunosuppressed individuals. Primary infection usually occurs within the first few years of life and is usually asymptomatic. In a study, 70% of Iranian and 56% of German 1-5 year-olds were EBV-positive [1].
