Being in college can be very stressful. Stress is simply the body's non-specific response to demands made on it. Tests, quizzes, assignments, and essays are due on a constant basis.This is why it is a good idea to recognize the signs, symptoms, and negative affects that is related to stress. Not being able to recognize stress could affect one's health, in a negative manner. Studies show that stress is the number 1 silent killer. This is another reason why it is wise to become educated with the different types of stress, how stress affects one's health, and the signs & symptoms of stress. There are three kinds of stress. There is acute stress, traumatic stress, and episodic stress.

The most common stress, that college students experience, is acute stress. Acute stress is common because, it is the only form of stress that is temporary and leaves once the problem is resolved. Examples of acute stress are: if a doctor calls or a major exam.

The second most common stress is episodic stress. Episodic stress is just what it says. It is stress that comes in episodes. This kind of stress occurs when someone find themselves in a constant stressful situation. For example: If there is a past due bill and every month the bill is constantly late or if a college student

Traumatic stress is also just what it says. Traumatic stress is when someone has experienced a traumatic event in their life. The symptoms of traumatic stress are but, not limited to anxiety, nightmares, and depression. Traumatic stress is often confused with PTSD, which means post-traumatic stress disorder. The are several ways to treat traumatic stress. Ways to treat traumatic stress are psychological counseling and/or medication. This type of stress is different from acute stress because, acute stress goes away and traumatic stress lasts a lifetime.
