Title: How to Get Disability Benefits for Episodic Respiratory Disease
What is Episodic Respiratory Disease?
When an impairment of the respiratory system occurs, as with a worsening of asthma symptoms, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, or chronic bronchitis, the major determination of the impairment is contingent on the frequency and intensity of episodes that occur despite treatments. An attack of asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, or hemoptysis (more than bloody sputum), or respiratory failure are considered episodic if it lasts one or more days and requires intensive treatment like antibiotic administration, intravenous bronchodilator, or prolonged inhalational bronchodilator therapy in an emergency room, hospital, or equivalent setting.
What are the Requirements Needed to Receive Benefits?
First and foremost, one will require documentation that includes records stating hospital, emergency facility, and/or physician records indicating the dates of treatment. Other documentation needed to receive benefits include clinical and laboratory findings—such as the results of spirometry and arterial blood gas studies--, any treatments that have been administered, time period needed for treatment, and clinical results.
