“Morning,” Mom says to Dad. “Brrr, it’s cold down here.” Mom shivers.

“Well, then turn on the heat,” Mom says.
“But, Mom, I want the fire on, please, please, please!” Lilly cries.
“I can’t, I’m sorry, honey,” says Dad.
“Lilly, what do you want for breakfast?” Jack asks.
“It’s okay, Jack, I’ll make breakfast,” Mom says.
“Pancakes! Mom, I want pancakes!” Lilly yells out.
“Okay, okay, I’ll make pancakes,” Mom agrees.
“Yay! High-five, Jack.”
“Okay.”

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is about a blind girl, Marie-Laure, who does not live in darkness. She has a very imaginative way of thinking, and the author’s tone conveys a world of vivid color. The reader does not imagine a girl who is afraid of the world band is hindered by being blind, but rather visualizes someone who can enjoy her life and everything in it despite her disability. Marie-Laure describes the piano chords that “loll in the speaker of the wireless in the guard station, projecting rich blacks and complicated blues” (Line 20-21). Even sounds have color in her mind, adding to this already vibrant world she has built, and giving the reader anothe4r look into her wonder-filled imagination.…

Whether your limitation is psychological or physical they all keep you from being the best version of yourself. Sickness, mental disorders, reputations, family, all these things keep people trapped in a toxic mindset. Some learn how to cope but others will always be slowed down by their entrapments. For my self-assessment project over the book “All the Light We Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr, I have created a newspaper titled “The Saint-Malo Monthly”. This title incorporates Saint-Malo, the setting of most of the book. This newspaper is set in August of 1944, which is when the war was at its climax and the major events of the story took place. My first news article is titled “The Mystery of the Sea of Flames”. It is about the legend, looks, and location of the Sea of Flames, a diamond Marie-Laure is introduced to at a young age.…

“Open your eyes, concludes the man, and see what you can with them before they close forever.” All The Light We Cannot See written by Anthony Doerr, is an incredibly eye opening book about the ways of seeing the world. This book follows blind Marie-Laure a french girl, and Werner a orphaned german boy. The setting takes place during World War Two and follows Marie-Laure and Werner every other chapter describing their lives, and how they are affected by this horrendous time. As you read you grow attached to these essentially forgotten people who are invisible in every sense but yet seem as so important and tediously placed in the world.…
