This morning we are going to play a little game. I have three cups here and a marble. Keep your eyes on the marble. When I am done mixing up the cups, I will ask you to guess which cup the marble is hidden under. (Don’t tell the your going to put the marble under the cup just let the assume you will be putting it under.)

Place all three cups on a table upside down. Pretend you will be placing the marble under a cup. To do this, lift the cup up from the back, put your hand under the cup like you are placing the marble under it, but keep the marble in your hand. As you say, “Keep your eyes on this cup”, quickly place the marble in your pocket. (Practice this at home several times with different people to make sure you have the technique

“Excavating Jesus” proved to be a unique blend of ground as gospel, as self-claimed in its introduction. However, after the engaging introduction, filled with facts and fun quips from the authors, the reader was pulled away from the goal of excavating Jesus and towards a textual representation of first century history that no longer focused on the historical Jesus but rather the historical Christian. Written by John Dominic Crossan, an Irish-American Catholic religious scholar, and Johnathan Reed, an archeologist specializing in early Christianity, the authors presented a book as well grounded as their esteemed credentials. Crossan’s pairing with Reed perfectly parallels his relationship with biblical texts, as he evaluates them on strata…

    Peter's Denials Of Jesus

The four biblical accounts of Peter’s denials of Jesus collectively convey the same message of the troubled disciple that Peter was on the evening before Jesus’ crucifixion, while also highlighting key differences that exist between the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Mark’s narrative describes a Peter who fails to understand Jesus and his mission up until the very end. Matthew and Mark through the use of redaction criticism of Mark’s gospel in their editing convey similar themes in their narratives but also contain key differences that emphasize the use of additional sources. John’s narrative takes a very different approach from the synoptic gospels, including both additions and omissions of details.…

In the passage Matthew 14:22 – 33, Matthew describes the scene in which the boat housing the disciples is being fiercely beaten by the waves in the ocean. The disciples have been alone, straining at the oars and struggling against the wind and the water for hours to keep afloat and they are tired. It isn’t until the fourth watch of the night that Jesus appears to them in the middle of the sea, walking on water. The disciples are fearful and Jesus dispels any doubts they may have had by using words of reassurance. Jesus says, “It is I. Don’t be afraid”.…

When Jesus was sentenced to death on the cross, he accepted to die for the sins of all people. He looked to redeem the world and be a savior against the evils of sin. The excruciating pain and agony he was put during the Passion leaves no question that he did in fact die on the cross. After being taken down from the cross and buried, it was later found that his tomb was empty. This empty tomb in itself does not necessarily mean that Christ rose from the dead.…

Still others say that he was drugged to appear dead, and then was later awoken by the tomb’s cool air. They back this up with Mark 15:36, where he was given a sponge of liquid. Plus, in Mark 15:44, Pilate is surprised at how fast Jesus died. Fortunately, with scripture, some logic, and common sense, we can establish four things. Jesus was really killed, he was really buried and found absent from the tomb, he…

The Passover supper Personal thoughts: On Thursday morning, the first day of the Feast, Jesus sent Peter and John to prepare a place where he could hold the Passover supper with his disciples in the evening. He knew it was the last time that he would break the bread of the Passover with them before he suffered, and it was also the first Holy Supper of the Christian Church. During the supper, he taught them a lesson of humility and talked with them tenderly and served them. At the end of the dinner, they sung a psalm together and he asked them to always believe him and no matter what happened never change their faith in God. He told them to live from him, like a branch lives from the vine, for he was the true spiritual vine, and without him they could do nothing.…

Indeed, the physical bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ reveals that He actually resurrected. If He resurrected Himself without His physical body, namely, if His immaterial aspect exclusively underwent the resurrection, the Apostles, including Thomas, would have doubts concerning Jesus Christ’s resurrection. For instance, since Jesus’s body would remain dead, Thomas would remain with unbelief: "Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe. " In addition, the bodily resurrection of Jesus sets the example of the resurrection of the saints: as Jesus resurrected as a whole, those who have died in Christ will likewise resurrect. His exaltation…

Christ wants nothing less than to send people to Heaven but if one cannot abide by all of his rules then he will not send them to that place. In the painting, it is very easy to pick out Jesus Christ and Mary since the two are located in the middle of the painting as well as there is some sort of glow shining behind them.…

Introduction The Old Testament announced beforehand the message of the resurrection, and this message is the mercy and the grace of YHWH to save us from our sins. The New Testament was written having the resurrection of Christ as the foundation of its message. The prophecies concerning the last days, which the prophet Joel wrote, would begin to be fulfilled at the resurrection. The resurrection shows Christ’s power over death, allowing us to have a new life, an eternal one, with God in His kingdom.…
