Bruno’s family walked out on the spongy grass to the center of the churchyard. The women were wearing lacy black dresses and the men were wearing suits. As they approached the immense tree in front of them they saw the casket. Bruno was laying inside.
“If only we had ran faster” said Elsa, Bruno's mother.
They took their seats in the front row next to Elsas mother and father. The Pastor came to the front and had some kind words about Bruno. Gretel leaned on her mom and started to cry. At the end of the service Uncle Karl said, “Maybe I should come stay with you guys for awhile until the stress and sadness has passed.”
“That would be a big help” said Ralph
Karl drove home and told Eva, his wife, that they would be staying with Ralph and Elsa for awhile.
“You know I don’t like those people,” she responded.
“They need help they just lost their son,” Karl said.
“Well I’m not going,” Eva said angrily.
“Fine, I am, they are sad and need my help so I don’t care what you want to do,” Ralph said.

Soon dinner was ready and they all came down to the table. Maria, the maid, served everyone a plate of Schnitzel. No one spoke for more than half an hour.
