Lately, my crew and I have had a very crazy journey. We have done a lot of traveling lately and it has been very frustrating because my crew has not been listening to my commands of what I tell them to do. My crew and I started out our journey my sailing all the way from the land of the Cyclops to the land of Aeolus. I got the chance to meet Aeolus and he is the God of the Wind. I was also very fortunate to receive a tremendously nice gift from the God Aeolus. This gift made me very happy at first when I found out that it was a bag filled of something that I needed. My crew and I really needed to get home, and the bag was filled with west blowing wind and was supposed to hold enough wind to help my crew and I to get home. When I got back to the ship with my men, I told them to no open the …show more content…
My crew made me really mad and angry because they opened the bag because they thought that it was filled with gold and silver. When they did not listen to their commands, and they opened up the bag, the wind escaped and sent us crazily all the way back to the land of Aeolia. When my ship filled with my crew landed back at Aeolia, the God Aeolus decided not to give us another gift to help us get home. I can definitely understand why he would not though because now he probably does not trust my men, just like I do not trust them anymore. I also like to think that he did not grant us another gift because he might think that the Gods are mad at my crew and I. After being back at Aeolia for the second time, my crew and I left the land and because we were laking wind, we all had to row our ships to try and get across the mighty sea. While we were trying to travel, my ships and I were attacked by the Laestrygonians and they sunk all of my fleet, except for my trip. Their attack also made me super mad because I am invincible and can do anything, but they were able to take down part of my fleet. The attack also made me feel like part of my pride in my fleet was

Aeolus is “dear to the immortal gods” (10.2), and in contrast to the Aeolus of the Aeneid, the Aeolus of the Odyssey is not a “‘king’ of the winds but rather their ‘steward,’ ταμίην ἀνέμων (21), given that responsibility by Zeus” (Phillips 19). He is free “ἠμὲν παυέμεναι ἠδ᾽ ὀρνύμεν, ὅν κ᾽ ἐθέλῃσι” (both to stop and to stir up whichever [wind] he wished) (22). Although no restrictions on this authority are listed, Aeolus clearly has no desire to use his power against the will of the gods. As Jenny Strauss Clay points out, “[b]oth the Phaeacians and Aeolus are ‘dear to the gods’…and at the end of his stay, Odysseus receives a pompe from Aeolus as he does from Alcinoos” (289). Unlike the Phaeacians, however, when Aeolus finally recognizes that the gods are working against Odysseus, he refuses to give further help, and so avoids the kind of punishment that the Phaeacians receive when their ships are turned to stone.…

The last step of the hero's journey is the Return. The Return is when the hero is able to come back to the old world with his accomplishments. Sometimes the hero may feel content in the new world and refuse to return to the old world. In order for the hero to fulfill their destiny and become the leader they need to return to their old world. An example of a refusal is when Jack fights against the cops and refuses to turn himself in and go to jail.…

The definition of the word religion is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. The Greeks and Romans, during the Trojan War, prayed, and made sacrifices to their gods, to better their chances of winning the war, or simply beating their opponent; in literature, the relationship between gods and devotees are portrayed much differently. Even though the stories contain different religions, Euripides’s the Bacchae, Homer’s the Odyssey, and Virgil’s the Aeneid discusses religion in terms of personal needs, or popularity, amongst the gods, rather than devotion and good deeds. The Bacchae by Euripides is an ancient Greek tragedy based on the myth of King Pentheus of Thebes and his mother, Agave,…

“Aeolus, the Greek god of winds, was often petitioned by sailors, who asked for his help in guiding their ships. He could release helpful trade winds, or he could release harmful storm winds that caused shipwrecks and steered sailors off course. Aeolus lived on Aeolia, called Lipara or the Island of Winds, off the coast of Sicily, and he kept his winds in leather bags, tied with silver strings and locked in a cave. When in his travels Odysseus landed on Aeolia, Aeolus gave him a goatskin bag containing all the winds that would impede his voyage; he warned Odysseus to keep them in the bag so he could return safely to Ithaca. While Odysseus was asleep, his traveling companions saw the bag and opened it.…

A long time ago when the ground starts to shake, the ocean ate up the coasts, and a dusty vortex sucks up cows, it meant the gods are mad. The ancient Greeks had a way of explaining the cause of many known natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, etc. Whenever a natural disaster occurs someone, somewhere did something to get the gods mad as is the ancient Greek's mentality. Coming back into reality, science has another perspective. Humans can make conclusions about the cause, effect, plus the origin of any natural disaster before it happens due to an advancement in modern-day technology.…

The clock ticked down as we had less than thirty minutes to find our way out of the labyrinth that we brought upon ourselves. The further we adventured into the unknown, the more our once unscathed gleaming shoes became soiled. We kept dredging through the dense, and sticky mud that now engulfed the path. The same path that was once created with the type of gravel that crunches and crackles like pop rocks in water. Every dreadful step lead us out of familiarity, inching into an unfamiliar landscape.…

Trust is something so valuable in a relationship, platonic or romantic, that it can later show who someone is as a person, and their reputation. During the epic, The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus builds as a character and the reader can see the leader’s courageous a side, but also the selfish side of him. Along the way to Ithaca, Odysseus acquires a bag of winds as a gift from Aeolus, God of the winds. This bag creates a debacle during their trip home. Odysseus’s crew opens the bag of winds without knowing the truth about what was really inside it.…
