Achilles vs Beowulf
Modern heroes today are people who put themselves in front of others in a though situation. Audie Murphy won the medal of honor, “fought in nine major battles, killed an estimated 240 Germans.” The evolution of heroes are people who don’t follow. They lead men into battle. They are also extremely independent, making their own discoveries, and are stopping something terrifying. Achilles and Beowulf is a prime example of these characteristics. Achilles is known for being the mightiest Achaean warrior, and Beowulf known for confronting and battling fierce, crazy monsters and bravely leading his men.
Beowulf, a powerful man who is not afraid to step up to a difficult Achilles strongest man in battle, will go fight when the battle is at its worst. Achilles is the more powerful hero. Yes, he might have a temper.” Achilles heart was divided whether to slay Agamemnon, or curb his anger”(Homer). That in itself motivated him to fight at the Battle of Troy. First, they fought as the mightiest hero. Second, they fought when the battle was bad. Achilles fought Hector. “I shall pursue Hector, and then abide my doom, whenever it may please mighty Zeus to send it” (Homer). Beowulf also fought Gretchen’ mother without a weapon. He also just about died. The second similar trait between these two men was stepping up when the battle was at its worst. Gretchen looked like he was going to eat every man. However, Beowulf yelled, “I am Beowulf!” He proceeded to attack and kill Gretchen. Achilles fought the entire Trojan army and was very successful, and he killed the mighty Hector.
