Ephany In Dennis Vigallon's Jonesing For Jamab

Decent Essays
The first essay that I read was Jonesing for Jamba, by Ashley Vigallon. I felt that this essay was relevant to my own experience in a way. The author explains how she always obeys the law, never does drugs, and does not cause trouble. However, because of her “friends”, she was caught in a bad situation involving the police. Just like the author, I have never done drugs and I am always obedient to the law. Also like the author, I have been caught in tough situations involving the law, due to the actions of my friends. However, my experiences do not measure up to the severity of the situation the author was involved in.

The next essay I felt had similarities to my life was Epiphany, by Dennis Zevely. In this essay, the author explains

The first journal that caught my attention and fit the category of “a personal response to a theme/topic in the novel” was providing a narrative which exemplifies my relationship with my best friend: the fourth journal entry. The reason why I chose this specific journal is because it really tackled the personal experience I once had with my former relationship and how it tied in with knowledge and beliefs. My interpersonal relationship with my former best friend resembled a certain situation that the characters in the book discussed; in both instances, both of us changed our views on seeing the advantages and disadvantages of a problem and seeing what consequences come with each side. Being in a relationship is a gateway to learning new things…

The two essays I chose to compare and contrast are Sam Walton/Jay Z and Serving in Florida. The purpose of the authors is to inform the audience about how the character of these to essays Sam Walton/Jay Z and Serving in Florida succeed staring from nothing and their evolution throughout their life, in a legal or illegal way of obtaining money. In the story of Sam Walton, he started from nothing and kept growing due of his ambition of progressing, he was a very cheap man, didn’t care much about fancy stuff. I think it’s very interesting how he manages his life style, humble and hard worker, always thinking with a big picture for his and his family future. Which is very similar to Barbara in the Serving America story.…

For the second essay, I decided to write a letter to Reggie Shaw. Within the letter I wanted to capture Reggie’s emotions, and let him know that his story has become an inspiration for us all. Throughout the read, I also wanted Reggie to forgive himself, and continue sharing his story with the new generation of drivers out there. Additionally, I tried to use sources that I believe would support my claim. Sources that discussed the different types of trauma the brain experiences when under emotional pressure, and sources that talked about the negative effects of cell phones.…

Composing about how a rhetorical writing experience was a result of a particular situation was a challenging task for me, simply because I could not think of any time that I intentionally wrote as a consequence to a situation. Fundamentally speaking, I do not consider myself a “writer”. Yes, anyone who writes anything is considered a writer, however, I rarely find myself dedicating my free time to literature. A writer, in my opinion, is someone who constantly expresses their passion for writing itself, and uses it as an outlet of expression toward anything, personal or general.…
