Vince was sitting at home, waiting for his friend. He was playing with trains when Talon walked in the door.
“Hey, Vince, what’s up?” Talon says as he walked in
“Nothing, want to go to the park?” Vince asked
“Sure. Mom, can Vince and I go to the park?”
“We just got here, but that will be fine.” Talon’s mom said

2
Talon and Vince ran upstairs, got some water bottles and headed out the door. They walked down the gray sidewalk, cracks spider webbing along the pavement. The rusted lamp posts shined as some of the glittering paint still clung to the posts.
“What do you want to do today?” asked Talon as they walked down the road.
“I don’t know.”
“I have an idea, let’s try to have the perfect day.”
“That sounds like fun.” Vince exclaimed

They went to a place that they thought would have applesauce for Vince and biscuits and gravy for Talon.

11
Talon asked for biscuits and gravy, and Vince asked for applesauce. When the waiter came back, he had a huge tray, with a tower of food on it.

12
“How about you try this, biscuits, colored blue and purple gravy.”
“No, no, no, I wanted normal biscuits and gravy!” Talon exclaimed, a defeated look on his face
“How about you have this, purple and green swirly applesauce.”
“No, no, no, I wanted normal applesauce!” Vince exclaimed, the same defeated look on his face

13
Talon and Vince left the restaurant, a very spent look on their faces.

14
“Vince, this is terrible, I think I have had enough of this park, let’s try to find the perfect day at home.” Talon said, as he looked at the lost city of Atlantis, flying unicorn and pirate ship
“I agree.” said Vince, seeing the utter chaos as well

Several days before the start of our last year in high school, my neighbor and I divided our time between hunting and surfing to end our summer. I really just wanted to go to the beach, but Johnny refused to give up the precious narrow window of time between the start of deer season and the start of the school year. One day, he came into our house uninvited. He charged into my room with a rifle in his hands to wake me up at five in the morning to sit in the deer stand with him that we had set up in the deep, swampy woods behind our houses. This was a normal occurrence of his, seeing as nobody locked their doors in this little hicktown, especially not my mother.…
