Eop & S Club Reflection

Decent Essays
During Summer 2017, I was a volunteer for the EOP&S welcome program. This event lasted two full days, and I was one of the team leaders and a guide for a group of new students.
I am part of the EOP&S club, and last year we organized an activity dedicated to clean Bakersfield College campus because we want a campus free of trash.
I've worked such Tutor, in the Tutoring Center at BC, and I've been a Supplemental Instructor or Teacher Assistant for almost two years at BC.

For the summer of 2016 I decided it would be a great idea to do work study for Trio Upward Bound at Delaware Technical & Community College. While there I did any errands that had to be done, record attendance, or file papers. This experience met my expectations as I had expected to help my supervisor in any way possible and do any office work that needed to be done. By only having done this, I knew I had contributed to the program because even the littlest help can save others time and work. Having done this work study was not a difficult task for me as I possess few skills and knowledge that helped me through it.…

It is a great pleasure to recommend Rachel Sitasz for admission to the Edward Hospital Student Volunteer Program. She is one of the most empathetic, kind, and exceptional humans I have encountered in my 14 years of teaching. I teach Rachel in my 8th grade advanced ELA class. Her academics, character, innate curiosity, intrinsic motivation, ethical standards, and unwavering desire to give back, have put Rachel in a class of her own. In fact, for the first time in over 25+ years, the eighth-grade team created a brand new end-of-the-year award for our graduation awards assembly.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

After a long year, I finally was back at La Semana, a week long adoption camp for kids from Latin American countries. After the joyous reunion hugs and hellos, I headed off to my classroom that I would be helping in. Glancing out the window I instantly knew that it was one of those picture perfect days. The sun already shining, and a cool breeze just strong enough to lightly brush through my hair. Back in the classroom however, the temperature was not so pleasant.…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

I am thankful that edTPA is behind me, it is an experience that I hope never to repeat. In retrospect, my self-diagnosis is that I experienced some form or learned helplessness. Throughout I was stressed to the maximum and constantly editing instead of moving forward and completing the product, just never satisfied. I had an extremely difficult time focusing and understanding the requirements for most of the questions. The easiest section was probably the Instructional Commentary and the most challenging the Assessment Commentary.…

In order to raise money for prom this year, I accompanied the class of 2019, for 5.5 hours, to a west point game and worked in concessions. I had a great experience working with my peers to achieve a goal that would benefit the senior class. Recently I have engaged in service with my church, for 4 hours, helping to move furniture while they were switching locations. From this experience I learned that sacrificing my time for a communal effort may seem minuscule, but ultimately helps increase efficiency. Also I volunteered at the annual Easter egg hunt at memorial park last weekend for 3.5 hours.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

After moving in on campus I began to notice how often litter appeared outside of my apartment. At first it wasn’t an issue until my friend came over for a visit; I gave him a tour and he complained about how dirty the campus was. It was at that point in time when I realized how ill-mannered some of the people I live with are. It was a total embarrassment for me to have to explain why people treated the campus like that. Of course there are reasons for why people do these things.…
