The Decline of Our Environment
In the past century, the environment has continued on a steady decline and actions are urgently required to curb the effects. Environmental pollution refers to the release of chemicals that cause detrimental effects on the environment. The main contributor of environmental depletion has been humans. Studies that were conducted by Dawson (2004) indicate that environmental depletion is driven by economic and population growth and the rising energy use among other human-related factors. The environment, in response to its decline, has made various alterations to the ecosystem and those alterations are affecting the global population. With more products being introduced into our landfills, it’s only natural to conclude that we are also introducing more toxins into the environment as the well. These bi-products produced during the decay process seep into the soil and contaminate it and can eventually reach the water table and contaminate that as well. If it reaches the water table it can pollute the local water supply and eventually reach larger bodies of water and cause pollution on a wider scale. Providing every house with a recycling can so everyone can do their part is quite simple. We could also put recycling cans around public places next to the mass of trash cans so people have a choice of what to do with their trash rather than being forced to throw it …show more content…
According to Dawson (2015), one of the atmospheric pollutants is CO among others. The release of CO into the atmosphere can be controlled by everyone doing their part, no matter how insignificant they may think it is. Reducing our dependency on fossil fuels would greatly reduce the amount of CO released into the atmosphere. Oil dependency has caused major harm to our environment since oils emit carbon emissions (Dawson, 2015). One way to reduce carbon emissions on a local level is to change all power lawn equipment to electric. Most cities provide green power that is produced without burning fossil fuels so going electric would be a viable solution. We can also use public transportation more often, carpool when available, and maximizing our time when running errands by making fewer
