What is the main argument and goal of the writing? The main goal of the article is to analyze and inform the public about the social and political challenges that continue to threaten the health and safety of predominantly minority communities in America. For instance, the author relies on explicit information to support his argument calling for the implementation of an environmental justice framework in order to eliminate unfair, unjust, and inequitable conditions. One of the more interesting subjects of the article is located on page 6, and it revolves around the 1983 study performed by the General Accounting Office and its findings. For instance, the author states that the (GAO) study found a strong correlation between the location of off-site hazardous waste landfills and the race and socioeconomic status of the surrounding communities. Even more concerning, the same study disclosed that African Americans made up the majority of the population in three of the four communities where off-site hazardous waste landfills were located. As a result, I found the author’s analysis of the study to be extremely important because it underlines the disparity of resources and need for a new form of environmental activism. Additionally, towards the end of the page the author adequately points out that activist must also begin to seek remedial action on neighborhood disinvestment, housing discrimination, residential segregation, urban mass transportation pollution, and all other environmental problems that threaten public
