Food security is the state of having access to a sufficient amount of food from a reliable food source. In the world we live in, nearly half of the world’s population live below poverty line. Meaning, more than 3 billion people live on just $2.50 a day. Another 1.3 billion people live in extreme poverty, earning an average of $1.25 a day. Looking at the World Hunger Map (figure 1), Haiti is in the very high range for Prevalence of undernourishment in the population, meaning there country in food insecurity. This report will compare Haiti and Australia, looking at their food sources, main exports, environmental issues and social issues.
Population:
Haiti’s population 2016 is projected to increase by 148 115 people and reach roughly 10 935 771 in the beginning of 2017. The natural increase is expected to be positive, as the number of births will exceed the number of deaths by 179 399. …show more content…
A major reason for these environmental issues is that there is not sufficient protection or management of the country's natural resources.
Geography:
Haiti is made of three main mountain ranges, separated by open plains, stretch across the country. The climate is tropical, with some variation depending on altitude. Coffee, cocoa, coconuts, avocado, orange, lime, and mango grow wild. The most important commercial crops are coffee and sugarcane. Other important crops include bananas, corn, rice, sorghum, beans, and cocoa beans. The virgin forests that once covered the entire country have now been reduced to about 4 percent of the total land
