Since the Industrial Revolution, humans have been abusing resources and polluting the environment mindlessly and it has had a serious effect: global warming. Global warming, defined as: “the gradual increase in the overall temperature of the earth 's atmosphere generally attributed to …show more content…
This will continue to climb, reaching as high as $91 billion dollars per year by 2050. For example, rising ocean temperatures on Canada’s West Coast have dramatically reduced the local salmon species, an important component of the coast’s economy. This is just one example of the commercial impact of climate change. Some of which include: Timber supply impact, flooding damage and poorer air quality. All of these will result in major profit loss for practically any primary or secondary industry. So then what does the government do? Combatting the economic blusters beforehand is key. If Canada can prevent climate change from taking it’ toll as a preventative, then possibly we can save billions of dollars before it is too late. The Government of Canada has become cautious of the economic disaster that climate change could bring. So following this new agenda, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently attended the Paris Climate Conference on December 21, 2015. All of the 196 attending countries came to a consensus to reduce emissions, and prevent World temperatures from increasing over 2 degrees on average. This is a good first step, however we also need to increase our knowledge of climate change, adapt our policies and finally yet importantly forge a strong understanding of the economics of global warming. If Canada can learn to implement this knowledge in a beneficial way, …show more content…
Furthermore, As Canadian medicine improves so does the average life expectancy of our citizens. With this is mind, our current median age is 40.6. By 2050 it is expected to shift, seniors will start to live longer and people will have less children. This will require Canadians to better prepare for medical emergencies in the event of dramatic climatic occurrences due to global warming. One of such weather events, which will become more prevalent are heat spells, droughts, flooding to say the least. These will create a dynamo effect, possibly endangering the health of Canadians everywhere. This unpredictable weather will be injurious, and every province affected. Since every province and region of Canada is geographically unique, each location will experience different weather; Especially Ontario. This is scary because it is the most populated province in Canada, and its problem is largely due to it being the second highest greenhouse gas emitter in the country. Ontario emissions were 171 Mt in 2010, an amount that represented 25% of Canada’s total emissions that year. “Due to our latitude, global warming is occurring faster in Ontario than the global average; while the average temperature around the world went up by 0.75 degrees Celsius in the past century, average temperatures in south-central Canada increased by an average 1.2
