One of the regional differences I note in the data is the lack of golf courses on the West Coast of the United States. In the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, golf is best served. Another region that is very well served is Florida. Generally speaking , the Deep South and West Coast regions of the U.S. lack the most golf courses. Some of the factors I believe account for this difference are environmental determinism and cultural traits. I think environmental determinism accounts for the difference because it shows just how the environment can prohibit the construction or development of something simply because it is naturally isn't supposed to be there. It also shows where wealth is distributed in the United States. To elaborate upon this, golf is traditionally played by wealthy retired citizens who belong to expensive country clubs. Not every case is like this, but it might suggest the wealth of Americans is concentrated where the gold courses tend to be more common. The lack of presence of golf courses affects a communities' housing values by devaluing the house. With added accommodations, houses become worth more money. The golf industry has much riding on the outcome of “Gregory E. Saska et al., vs. Omni Hotels Management Corporation.” Let’s call it the Poinsettia fire case for short – not poinsettia as in the red and green plant that you see everywhere in December, but Poinsettia as in the name of the street that abuts the 7th hole on the Champions Course at La Costa Golf Club in Carlsbad. The fire allegedly originated in the strip between Poinsettia Lane and the 7th fairway. Saska and company, mostly a horde of insurance companies that paid millions in claims from the freak fire that rampaged through the canyons of Carlsbad in May 2014, are suing Omni La Costa for failing to demonstrate due care in performing one of the following acts. The article “ Mental Environmentalism” by Micah White highlights the key idea that pollution negatively impacts the earthly environment, similarly, advertising companies and constant media messaging negatively affects the mental health of the population. The author brings up the idea that commercial propaganda is largely affecting the collapsing environment because advertisements pollute our minds and create a distraction from the collapsing world around us. However, instead of trying to individually solve these problems mental environmentalists are targeting the core agent which is the advertising industry which fuels consumerism and inevitably affects our mental environment. In order to support this thesis White elaborates on topics such…

The first course I am going to talk about is a more modern golf course with a lot of edginess, Whistling Straits. When the course was first being erected, everyone knew that it was going to be something special because of the world renown designer undertaking the project, Pete Dye. Nonetheless there was skepticism about the golf courses potential, considering they were going for a rugged and sloping style course and it was being constructed from a low lying, pancake flat, abandoned, military base. Of course there was some undeniable potential considering it was located on the bank of gleaming and lustrous Lake Michigan. Once the finishing touches were put on the treasure, golf fanatics from around the world were astonished of the courses outcome.…
