Today, we are facing the environmental crisis of global warming. A major factor that is contributing to this is the use and burning of fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and oil. Through the process of coal burning, Carbon Dioxide is formed as a result, which is one of the major causes of the Greenhouse effect. With the Greenhouse effect, the Earth’s average temperature rises, causing ice caps to melt, which is an effect of global warming. To put a stop to this, our population needs to change our current energy sources to renewable resources, such as solar energy. Solar energy is the energy collected from the sun’s rays. The benefits of solar energy may not be seen immediately, but in the long run, there will be a positive difference. For example, the more greenhouse gasses that we produce from using fossil fuels harm the planet and are correlated with global warming. However, solar energy does not contribute to the issue of global warming. The emissions from solar energy are slight compared to fossil fuels when producing electricity. Solar energy has a smaller carbon footprint than fossil fuels. Also, in the process of forming solar panels, solar electricity power plants produce zero emissions. Another example is that adding solar panels to your home can earn a monthly savings of about $100. Over two decades and this translates to close to $25,000.
