Entry Level Nursing

My view of the entry level of nursing is that not all nurses need to have advanced education completed to begin their quest into the field of nursing. Nurses continue to grow as individuals and professionals through their experiences in healthcare. I began in long-term care with my LPN. I even moved forward into the acute care setting with only my LPN. I have been nursing with great care and compassion since my first days at Bergan, even though I did not have my BSN from the start. My supervisors and bosses would attest that they value me as a member of their team even though it has taken until now for me to pursue my BSN. Even without that coveted BSN, I have had the opportunity to educate my patients, precept student nurses, orientate new nurses and be a nurse leader on the Unit (Finkleman & Kenner, 2016, p. 85). I will not argue against the benefits, though, of nurse’s obtaining their BSN, especially since I’m pursuing my own. Some of the knowledge gained in a baccalaureate degree can be learned through experience on the job. …show more content…
That is not what always happens in this world today. I cannot say that I am surprised by the disagreement on this issue. We all have opinions and often people want to have their opinion be the right one. This feeling of the need to be right causes disagreement on topics like this one. There is supportive material for both mindsets. Less educational requirements can help to improve the nursing shortage as it currently stands. More education means all the nurses whom patients encounter will have had the well-rounded and extensive education included in the BSN. This level of education to include world-wide variety, meanings of career versus employment, as well the background and development of the nursing
