internship program as a sophomore because I believe I am ready to expand and strengthen my network and career skills. When it comes to a job, it ultimately comes down to your experiences, connections, and skills. An internship opportunity in Washington D.C. as a junior would give me a tremendous advantage over applying as a senior because I will be a more competitive job applicant and, as important, I will have a better idea of where I’d like to focus having more experience “under my belt.” I intend to intern the summer of 2018, fall 2018 if accepted to this program, and summer 2019. If I work in D.C. as a junior, I will gain the skills, experiences, and networking opportunities necessary to set me up for an internship for the summer between my sophomore and junior year. Spending as much time possible in D.C., the heart of American politics, before I graduate will afford me with the tools necessary to succeed once I have my first job. Working as a junior, I truly believe that the early exposure to the processes, opportunities, and ability to observe the inner workings of Government (good, bad & ugly!) will allow me to get focused earlier and produce more
